Introduction
Hello my name is Norbert Caruana from Malta I am 54 years old.
I have been thinking for the last few years to launch this site
on the internet. I am sure that this introduction will give a good
perspective of myself and my career. I started doing this work in
1990 when I was employed with the government department.
My career started when I had the opportunity to study restoration
and meanwhile working on some historical Maltese buildings for restoration.
This job gave me satisfaction that I was expecting. I fell in love
with Maltese history and restoration work in general. In Malta we
have many interesting and historic buildings to take care. Under
the Valletta Rehabilitation project I had the opportunity to see
how much is important that this kind of buildings must have the
proper attention so those who are coming after us they find what
our ancestors left. Further in this web site you will see some good
techniques that I done during the course of my work experience that
might help you experimenting doing some restoration on your own
work.
In September 1998 I had the chance to try how in the antique they
use to build rubber walls, the course took 15 days where I had the
opportunity to learn and do the same work with people that are experts
in the area of restoration. At the end of the course I was presented
with a certificate that certifies me for such restoration in the
field of old rubber walls and related subjects. As you now we can't
say that’s enough now I learned all because there are many
things to learn about restoration and other opportunities to keep
on learning and also to stay up to date. In April 2000 I went to
Venice for three weeks to learn more about restoration specializing
in stone. In these three weeks I had tried many different methods
how to clean and to keep the stone in it's general form. As from
that time I never stop doing my work with a certain initiative and
determination.
Again in April 2002 there was a vacancy to engaged Supervisions
executive ( Restoration Technician ) in the Restoration Unite. In
front of five officials member including Architecture and people
who are experts in Restoration, I had an interview where I succeed
gaining the first place from thirty seven candidates, this was a
great satisfaction for me as I had worked hard for it and I was
paid back in the right way. Again in October 2002 I had the chance
to continue studying in Italy for three weeks. In these three weeks
I had worked in an old mill and it had been restored in it's natural
way.
In July 2004 I had finish my two year course in (Heritage Skills Craftsman)
at the Malta Center of Restoration. Again in October 2015 I had another
opportunity to study abroad exactly in West dean Collage UK.
To conclude I would like to
thank you all who gave me the opportunity to build up my career
in the restoration ambient and to say that here in our country we
have marvelous treasures, therefore please be careful these are
things that make Malta rich our history.
Norbert Caruana.
